sharp Jags down blunt Dons
Inverness Caledonian Thistle 1 | Williams 21′
SPFL Scottish Premiership | Pittodrie | 3pm | Att: 12,021 | FT
Match Summary:
Inverness CT deservedly claimed the points at Pittodrie thanks to a first half Danny Williams strike. That was after Aberdeen dominated the opening spell but failed to create too many clear cut chances. Williams made them pay on 21 minutes when poor defending allowed him to pop up at the far post and smash the ball off the underside of the bar and into the back of the net. The Dons had a succession of corners and free kicks and continued to dominate possession without creating any real opportunities although they could have had a penalty after a hand ball incident.
Jamie Langfield today made his 296th appearance and overtook Fred Martin on the all time AFC appearance list – it means only two goalkeepers are now ahead of him – Bobby Clark and Jim Leighton.
Jamie had to make a couple of good saves to keep out Doran and Williams in the first half. Also Williams crossed low across the face of goal but Billy McKay couldn’t get a touch.
Again the home side saw lots of possession in the second period but created few chances- Willo Flood went closest when his dipping shot had to be touched over the bar by Brill. Russell Anderson also went close. Apart from that though the Dons never really looked liked scoring against a very well organised and solid defensive unit.
Inverness, who also looked a constant danger on the break, actually looked the more likely to score in the second period. Three times Billy McKay found himself in good positions, the first saw Reynolds make a good block, then Anderson recovered well to avert the danger before McKay slashed another effort wide of the far post. Graeme Shinnie also had a shot which hit the post.
A disappointing afternoon for The Dons who now face a big run of games away from Pittodrie.
