In Sunday’s edition of RedMatchday there is an interview with Shay Logan.
“Last season, particularly in that first game against United, and maybe the season before, the manager maybe felt that he did not have the ability to freshen up the team. That is why after the European run last season we ran out of steam a bit and it was not really until a few months later that we got a second wind and we picked ourselves up again.
“We lost against United, St Johnstone, Celtic and Hamilton, as well as drawing against St Mirren. The season might have been very different had we opened the campaign better, who knows? We are keen to get off to a better start this season. At the moment we are three points better off in the league than we were going into our second game.
“Against Dundee United the manager made a few changes to the team, but he has the chance to do that now because we have got a very good squad and plenty of players who can do a job in different positions. All the players on the bench could come into the team and not weaken it, whoever we are playing against. I think you have to have that, especially when you have a schedule like ours has been.
“It is very much a squad game now. Just look at this week. Game Sunday, game Thursday and then a game today. It is only natural that people’s legs and minds are going to tire. Even Jacko, the club captain, did not play in the last league game. I am sure it is good for the fans to see Aberdeen having such a good and strong squad. The hard part is for the manager, deciding who he plays and who he leaves out.
“Saying that, I am not letting anyone play at right-back! That is my spot!! No, seriously, there are a number of boys who could fill in for me if need be.
“We feel we are a very fit team. We feel that in the last 15 minutes of games, we can get the better of teams. That is when you need to be fittest. When teams are starting to tire, if you can then push on, you get more opportunities. It is a lot easier scoring a goal when the opposition is tiring, whether it be physically or mentally.”
