For Red Matchday Magazine Issue Six there is a special League Cup edition for the Quarter-Final tie against Motherwell.

There are interviews with Jesper Karlsson, Dimitar Mitov, Dante Polvara and Emmanuel Gyamfi:

One of the real bright spots in a testing day against Livingston last Saturday afternoon was our first opportunity to see Emmanuel Gyamfi in first team action after his move here in the summer. Emmanuel has been ruled out with injury since the campaign started, but he was able to give us all a taste of what we have to look forward to in his 63 minutes on the field. Emmanuel was understandably thrilled to be back in business.

“First of all, I was happy to be back, to be fit, to be playing again alongside the boys. Of course, we could have got a better result, but I’m happy. We keep working in training and we are always looking to train better to be better for the next games. I’m not too negative about the Livingston game. Of course, we could have won it on another day with the close chances we had, but that’s football. We have to take the draw and keep working harder and harder.

“Coming here to Aberdeen, I had a good feeling, but obviously then I had this injury, this makes things difficult because at a new club especially, you just want to play all the time. But I had other boys alongside me, so they gave me energy and spoke to me every day, so it was easier to keep going.”

An extensive look at our League Cup record against Motherwell and look back at all the previous ties:

Overall: Played 20, won 9, drawn 1, lost 10. Scored 38, conceded 38.

At Pittodrie: Played 9, won 6, drawn 0, lost 3. Scored 27, conceded 15.

Crowds listed at 25,000 attended at Pittodrie on 5th October 1946 and on 23rd August 1952 – the highest League Cup gates of games between Aberdeen and Motherwell.

Four of the last five meetings of the clubs in the League Cup have been at the quarter final stage, both sides having registered two victories apiece.

Aberdeen went on to win the trophy both times they beat Motherwell in the quarter final – in 1995-96 and again in 2013-14. Motherwell were runners up in 2017-18 after beating Aberdeen in the last eight.
