Aberdeen showed resilience aplenty to come from behind and earn a well deserved draw at Tynecastle, all on the back of an energy sapping midweek trip to Baku. Stephen Glass was full of praise for his players’ efforts.

“Thursday night took a lot out of the players, but you saw in the second half the energy levels they give us. I didn’t doubt them, but in the circumstances, the quality and the energy was brilliant. That’s just solidified what I know about them already. I know I’ve got a great group of players in there, boys that will work hard, will do the tactical things we ask of them, who are hungry to win games and who aren’t scared to come to places like this.

“If you go a goal down here, it’s very difficult to get back in the game, but even so, I felt second half we looked the team most likely to win it. They had opportunities on the break but I felt we controlled things in what was a very good game for the supporters to watch. I was delighted we came back from a goal down because a draw was the least we deserved.”

Scott Brown, who began his career with Hearts’ rivals Hibernian was given a hot reception from the Tynecastle crowd, but once again, the skipper produced a strong display.

“Scott did a good job for us again today but he’s the kind of player and personality that relishes the kind of battle and atmosphere that we were in this afternoon. But don’t ignore the fact that he’s a good footballer too because on that side, he was fantastic today. Breaking things up, driving the team forward, using the ball well, he was excellent and then when the heat’s on, you can rely on him 100%.”

Funso Ojo was the man who grabbed the goal, continuing the renaissance he has enjoyed this term under Glass’ guidance.

“Funso has been unbelievable for us. He was on the outside of the group, he went away on loan last season, so we didn’t get chance to look at him. But since the start of pre-season, he has been terrific for us. He’s forced his way into the team and he’s staying in there on merit.”

The goal was set up by Dean Campbell, another who caught the eye when coming on at left-back this afternoon.

“Dean came on and did a great job at left-back. It was his first taste of the action this season, he’s had to bide his time so far, but I think being able to handle a game of that magnitude today shows how hard he’s been working. We ended up with three under 21 boys in the back four there and they were all excellent.

“Jet came on and did really well for us too. The game in Baku wasn’t great for him, the pitch really didn’t suit him. He’s obviously a big, heavy guy and if you thought the pitch looked bad on TV, you should try walking on it. For him, that pitch was particularly difficult. Today he was ready to do his bit for us when he was called upon and that is the mentality throughout the whole squad, which is brilliant.”
