After the game, Derek McInnes gave his reaction to the media

“A very disappointing night.

“In terms of how the game played out it was what we expected. We knew it would be feisty and competitive and it was. I don’t have a problem with that. I expect my team to be competitive.

“The lack of conviction in both boxes has cost us the game tonight.

“We had some real guilt edge chances. When we have the chance to show some quality inside the box we have to be able to do that. We have to take those chances as goals change matches.

“Our inability to defend the first goal was disappointing. It gave Hamilton the momentum in the game. We started the second half well and past up some opportunities again. We had to be far more measured with our defending for the second goal. We were too excitable. Two nil is a difficult scoreline to turn around but still possible. We still had chances after that. Our inability though to score was disappointing.

“Hamilton thoroughly deserved to win the game because they took their chances and we did not.

“There were no surprises with the way Hamilton played. They have been tough opponents for everyone this season and they are a good side. We are a good side as well but you have to give yourself the chance to win. We were more than competitive between the two boxes, we passed the ball at times. The game was fairly even in that area. The problem tonight was what happened inside the boxes.

“You have to defend properly and also carry a threat at the other end. If you don’t do that you will lose the game.

“First and foremost we have to get back to being difficult to score against. You should not have to score three or four goals to win a game of football. We have enough good players in the building to defend properly and do better defensively as a team than we are at the moment.”
