The Manager’s reaction

Aberdeen manager, Derek McInnes was frustrated with the result.

“We worked extremely hard and controlled the game,” he said.

“There’s frustration from our point of view, annoyance at times with the reluctance to shoot. if we took the opportunity to shoot we might have got something because they’re a team who defend deep.

“A lot is made about their style and how they want to pass but I thought we were the team who got on the ball and moved it side to side. They never had any real fluency, other than when we lost the ball in a couple of areas.”

Inverness manager John Hughes was pleased with his side’s defensive resilience but still labelled their goalless draw with Aberdeen as “two points dropped”.

Caley Thistle were resilient against the second-placed Dons but could not find a breakthrough at the other end that would have boosted their own European hopes.

“I’m delighted to keep a clean sheet,” said Hughes

“Possibly Aberdeen had better ball retention but some of our football in the first half was slick and possibly we had the better chances, so it’s two points dropped.

“Second half we lost our way a little bit and had to sit in, but that’s part of football. Another night, we could have scored two or three goals.”
