The manager’s reaction

Dons manager Derek McInnes could be satisfied with a job well done after watching his side boss the action.

“I thought we managed the game well throughout,” he said. “We were very competitive, winning a lot of challenges and looking after the ball well with some real terrific play in between, creating some great chances.

“I said to the team at half-time we had to learn from Tynecastle, where we didn’t show ourselves up front.”

Aberdeen have plenty on their plate as they fight on two fronts, but McInnes insisted that second place was not imperative to the club’s ambitions.

“We just want to get into Europe if we can,” he said. “We’re not obsessed with second. We’re just obsessed with keeping up a level of performance.”
