Niall McGinn was today at Hampden as the four nominees were announced by the PFA for the Player of the Year award 2013. After posing for some photos with three of his fellow nominees he spoke to RedWeb.

“I am delighted that I have been nominated. It is obviously a great achievement for myself and it is extra special that I have been nominated by my fellow professionals. I am looking forward to the awards dinner.

“As I have said before I am really enjoying my football at Aberdeen and when you get nominated for awards like this it shows that things are going well. Long may it continue. The highlights for the season were my first goal for the club, the hat-trick for Motherwell and also my goal for Northern Ireland against Portugal. Three great moments.

“Since coming to Aberdeen I have been playing a new role – up front and have been getting on the score sheet regularly. Team wise it has been a disappointing season so it vital we get things right next season.

“The new manager has been brilliant since he arrived. The training has been excellent. Like everyone else I want to impress and it is important in the final few games we do well and finish the season with some momentum so we can all look forward to the new campaign. These games will also give the manager some food for thought. There are guys out of contract but the guys under contract are still keen to impress as well. We all want to be part of his plans next season and be in his team.

“Next season we have to be more consistent. We have played well in patches this season but we have drawn too many games, especially at home. We went on a 12 game unbeaten run but too many of those games were draws. We have to improve our home form and get a winning mentality into the squad.

“There is still quite a bit of football to be played this season though and for me personally I want to score a few more goals.

“The move to Aberdeen has worked out great for me. As a professional footballer you want to be playing football week in week out. I am loving my football. It is a great club with a great history and I am really enjoying living in the city. The fans have also been great and very supportive towards me.”
