Paul Sheerin on RedTV

Paul Sheerin spoke to RedTV on the team bus after the young Dons 3-0 win over Celtic. The win keeps his side top of the SPFL Development League. “I am extremely pleased with the win. Another very good performance to go with it. “We started a bit slow but once we got into our rhythm we dominated for long periods and young Robbie did not have too many saves to make. “I thought when we went two goals up we were very professional and once we got the third goal we could have gone on and scored a few more. “The players managed the game really well at 3-0 and that was also very pleasing.

“At the start of the season we made life difficult for ourselves and there were a number of games that we could not see out. Compare that with now touchwood, we have learned from the mistakes we were making and as a coach that is satisfying as it shows they are learning. That is what it is all about at this level.

“We seem to be playing very well each week at the moment and as I say it is not just the results, there have been some very good performances as well.

“The shape was very good this afternoon which is important when you are playing against good players. A team like Celtic will try and move you about but all the boys worked really hard to keep the shape. Cem and Scott worked back from the wide areas when they had to, to help Jamie and Kieran keep a good line and Cammy worked tirelessly. They all worked their socks off so it was a very good team performance.

“Lukas (Culjak) has played the last couple of games and has kept clean sheets. He is aggressive and gets close to people. Michael Rose was also excellent today. He has played at right back the last two games but stepped back into central defence and looked like he had never been away from there.

“Scoring goals is such a good habit for a striker to get into as it gives you confidence and you go into games knowing you are going to score. That was very much the case today with Lawrence. He probably only had the three clear chances and he scored them all. The first two goals he gets across the defender with great movement.

“That is 25 I think now for the season. At any level that is brilliant.

“Clark (Robertson) has such a cultured left foot when he gets into good areas he will deliver more often than not. Lawrence knows what areas the ball is going to go into. Clark has been excellent since he came back in and he is building his fitness all the time.

“I don’t know if we will stay at the top of the League. We are on a good run at the moment so we have given ourselves an opportunity. Once you get to the top, teams are desperate to beat you, so we will have to deal with that pressure. I am not going to sit here and say we don’t want to stay there. You want to breed good habits so hopefully we can keep winning and if we won the league it would be fantastic.

“It is all about teaching the young boys the game and that includes winning.

“There is a mentality needed to be a professional footballer and winning is obviously a big part of that. Getting the right mentality at a young age can only help the club in the future.”
