Nicolas Milanovic has rejoined A-League side Western Sydney Wanderers for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old winger arrived at Pittodrie from the Wanderers last summer but was unable to establish himself as a regular starter during his season with the Dons.

The Australian international, who earned his first senior caps in a double-header against New Zealand last September, featured in 23 of Aberdeen’s 51 matches last season, including 10 starts, and registered one assist in the Premier Sports Cup victory over Morton at Cappielow.

Dons boss Stephen Robinson said: “Nicolas had a brilliant couple of seasons with Western Sydney before moving to Scotland, but unfortunately it just didn’t quite happen for him at Aberdeen.

“That said, I cannot speak highly enough of him as a person and as a professional. His attitude and application every single day in training was first class.

“Returning to a club and league where he previously enjoyed so much success gives him a great opportunity to get his career back on track.

“From our perspective, we’ve secured a good fee and retained future economic rights to the player, so it’s a deal that makes sense for everyone involved.

“I’d like to thank Mila for everything he gave during his time at Aberdeen and wish him every success in the future.”

Milanovic, who started his career with Western United before joining Western Sydney in 2023, was thankful for his time in the north-east.

“From the moment I arrived, everyone at Aberdeen made me feel incredibly welcome and I’ll always be grateful for that.

“Although things didn’t quite work out on the pitch as we all hoped last season, I’ve learned a lot from my time in Scotland and leave with some great memories.

“I’d like to thank my teammates, the staff and, of course, the supporters for all their backing during my time at the club. I wish everyone connected with Aberdeen Football Club nothing but success for the future.”
