Aberdeen Women travel to Glasgow on Wednesday evening to play their penultimate fixture of the season against Glasgow City. The Dons go into the game after a 4-1 defeat to Hibs on Sunday which leaves them remaining in fifth place, five points clear of Spartans in sixth position. The Dons round off their campaign on Sunday when they travel to take on Motherwell.
Speaking after Sunday’s game, co-manager Gavin Beith previewed Wednesday’s match in Glasgow:
“There are positives we can take from Sunday’s game. In the second half we had a lot of possession, we controlled the game for large periods but ultimately it is about trying to get those final efforts at goal to give yourself a chance which we never got enough of.
“Millie Urquhart made her debut and I thought that she was incredible, I thought that she did really well. She knew it was going to be tough and that it was a sink or swim situation. There are things that she can work on and get better at but she is a young kid that has been thrown in against one of the top four teams in the country and done really. We knew what she could do, that is why we decided to give her the opportunity and their will be a lot more next season as well.
“The biggest challenge for us, and we have spoken about it, is we are almost marking ourselves against the top opponents, ‘how far have we come?’ We want to see that, we didn’t do as well on Sunday as we would have hoped but hopefully we will go out on Wednesday and be a lot harder to beat.
“It is another big game to step into and see how we go but it is one that we look forward too.”
Midfielder Natasha Bruce also looked ahead to the game with Glasgow City:
“Sunday was disappointing, we had good spells in possession but we lost a quick couple of goals. I don’t think that 4-1 reflected the game. We were disappointed not to come away with any points.
“Hibs are a good team defensively. I think that we needed to be a bit braver on the ball and try to draw them out. There were opportunities and we did create a few chances.
“Glasgow City are a very good team as they have shown over the years. We have faced them a couple of times already and we know what they are about. I think we can take positives from when we played them at Brechin last year. In the second half we didn’t concede and got in a good shape and had a bit more possession. We go out to try and win every game and we will try to get points out of our last two games.
“Last time we went there was not the best of results but hopefully that gives us the motivation for a better performance and to be a bit braver and to get on the ball and to take the game a bit.”
