Following Sunday’s brilliant 5-1 victory over Motherwell at the Balmoral Stadium, Aberdeen Women are straight back into action as they travel to take on Glasgow City on Wednesday evening. The Dons go into Wednesday’s game having won their past five matches in a row. The last times the two sides faced each other back in November, it was Glasgow City who ran out 5-0 winners.
After Sunday’s victory, co-manager Emma Hunter previewed Wednesday’s game at Petershill Park:
“We have grown so much over the past few months. We have been able to field a consistent team as well over the last few weeks which has helped us to go five matches unbeaten. Being injury and Covid free has also helped us as well. Hopefully we can continue to grow and build on this.
“It is a tough game against Glasgow City. We can take a lot of confidence from the past five games. Against the top teams we know that we can go out and compete. If we manage to defend like we have done over the past five games and with the strike force that we have got then we can always create chances and get goals. I am excited for Wednesday.
“Confidence is huge. We know that when we had a run of difficult games that our confidence was really low. We just needed to find a few victories to get that confidence back. We have got a team of players that are full of confidence and when they go out there they play with real confidence. They are good with their 1v1’s, good at their individual battles. We play out from the back, we try and play football. It shows the type of team that we are.
“We know Glasgow City, they have been up at the top for so long but we have got so much to build on and we will go out there with that same fighting spirit, try and play the football that we can and defend really well. With the opportunities that we get in front of goal, if we can take them then you never know what can happen. I am really looking forward to it.”
Hannah Innes also previewed the game at Petershill Park:
“We have won five games in a row so couldn’t have wished for anything better than that. We need to take that into Wednesday night and wee what we can do there. The last time out against Glasgow City in the second half, we competed with them for the full half, we are hoping that we can bring that for the full 90 minutes this time and hopefully grind out a result.”
