“The word to use is frustrating.

“And we are doubly frustrated with Celtic losing the points last night. We had the chance to close the gap but we were unable to capitalise on that opportunity. It is very disappointing, especially the manner in which we lost the goal.

“It was a scrappy game. They had a few chances before we went to a back three. As soon we changed the formation we started coping with their front two and we dealt with first balls. I thought we looked more comfortable. We also were able to put more pressure on them. We limited them to very few chances and the boys in front of us were playing some nice stuff.

“We changed things about two or three times. Everything the manager did from the side seemed to work and seemed to strengthen us.

“We got the goal and then started the second half well. I felt we were in control and pushing for that second. But at 1-0 they have always still got a chance and in the end they get the penalty and the game ends in a draw.

“From where I was standing it looked like he got contact (with the ball) and Ryan said in the changing room after he made contact with the ball. However the referee has taken the view he has also made contact with the player.

“I think it is very harsh but we have given the referee a decision to make and we should have never been in that situation in the game. As I say in the second half we looked more than comfortable and limited them to very few chances so it was very disappointing to lose the game in that manner.

“It is always going to be hard when you lose the top players. Especially the type of player Adam Rooney is. He is a guy who gets us goals. He is the guy who will score you a scrappy goal or get you a goal out of nothing. I think Simon has come in and he is the same mould as Adam. He has started off his Aberdeen career well and it gives him the chance to step up into that role. It gives him a chance to step up and shine and he has shown he is capable of scoring. We will miss Adam but we have players in the squad who can step up and do a job.

“Hopefully we can get back to winning ways on Wednesday night.”
