Barry Robson was proud of his side’s performance in Frankfurt this evening, but was frustrated that the result was not a better one to take home.

“You have to show that desire, that fight, that tactical know-how every time you put on an Aberdeen jersey, and I thought they did that in abundance tonight. I’ve seen teams crumble against good sides in this kind of environment when they concede early, but I trust my players, they’re a good bunch.

“The frustration is that it’s a penalty and a set play that has cost us. They’ve got the players to open you up or to stick one in the top corner but we stopped them doing that, so to lose a goal from a corner was frustrating.

“In the three European games, we’ve shown we can compete. Our club has a great tradition in Europe and we feel that responsibility going into these games. In Europe, you need to be tactically right, you need to be disciplined, you need to be switched on at every set play.

“In this environment, top players will unlock things quickly, but we worked a lot on that and we were very good at stopping that tonight. It’s very hard to press really high and get after a team of that quality, but I thought we got our distances right, we got our press right, we tried to transition on them quick when we got the ball, which brought us the goal.

“That was a terrific team that we faced, they won the Europa League not long ago, they’re full of quality players. We worked very hard, we stuck to the tactical plan and in the last 10 minutes, we could have nicked a draw.”
