“We are obviously going to miss the guys who are out injured tomorrow. But the manager has brought in a lot of quality over the summer, guys like Gregg Wylde who can come into the side. It is an opportunity for him to establish himself. He has been a bit unlucky not to get a chance so far. He is a very good player. The players who have not started as many games will look at this as an opportunity and hopefully they will take it I missed the last game as well so maybe there is a chance I can come back in.

“You cannot blame the injury situation for not getting results against Hearts or St Johnstone because the team performance was still good enough to win the game. The manager is confident in the squad and we are confident in the belief he has in us. Even if we are missing two, three, four players we have others who can come in. For example Russell is out but Andrew Considine could come back in.

“I have watched Partick Thistle a couple of times on TV and they look a good side. You had it last year with Ross County and two years ago with Inverness CT – the promoted sides doing well. When teams come up they seem to do well because they have confidence after going on a winning streak in the First Division. They take that into the top league. It will be a very tough game.

“I am a bit more pleased with my own form that I was at the start of last season. I now have a base to work on for the rest of the season. I want now to push on. Now I have a platform. Last season I got off to a slow start and felt I was playing catch up all season.

“We are not too concerned by the lack of goals as the chances have been there. We were a bit unlucky against St Johnstone. You would worry if we were not creating chances. The manager has spoken to us about what we need to do better to score more goals and we have been working hard on that in training this week. We also know over the course of a season the lucky we have not been getting in front of goal will even itself out.

“I have to give credit to the fans. The away fans have been unbelievable. Even the home fans. I was telling my friends at other clubs how many people came along to the friendly last week. Hopefully we can do our bit on the pitch to make them keep coming through the turnstiles.

“I have noticed that when we play the old v the young in training I am now in the old team! I have therefore to take that responsibility on board. We have some great young players and when I look round the dressing room I do feel more responsibly and the need to help them.”
