Joe spoke to RedTV at lunchtime “I am very pleased. I was really surprised when I heard the news as it is the first month I have been playing with the first team. It is good recognition for the club and again highlights the work that is being done with all the young players coming through.

“I got my chance through the injuries that we have had. I feel that I have taken that chance. I have played quite well in all the games so I pleased with the way everything has gone recently, especially with me getting an additional two year contract.

“I came over to Aberdeen from Ireland when I was 17 and I started playing in the youth team. I have learned a lot from Neil Cooper who is a great coach and also from Neil Simpson. Also going on loan at Forfar last season also helped my career. I have learned so much in the space of three years and come along way.

“I know though that I need to keep my head down and keep working hard. I still have a lot more to learn and hopefully can do so under Craig and Archie.

“I am looking forward to getting back playing again after the winter break. We have a number of players back in training this week who have recovered from injury so everyone is very upbeat and optimistic about the weeks and months ahead. Hopefully we can get some good results. If we can be more consistent, and with the squad we have got there is no reason why we cannot do that, then I think we can finish well up the table. A club of this size should be aiming to finish second.

“Having Russell Anderson at the club has been a huge influence on me, especially as he plays my position. I was not here the first time around but when he was coming back everyone in the dressing room spoke very positively about him and I can understand why now. You learn so much from him, the way he prepares for games, the way he conducts himself on and off the park.”
