Inverurie Loco Works FC 3-1 Aberdeen Development Harlaw Park Greg Mitchell Testimonial Match Saturday 11th July 2026 A very young Aberdeen Development side fell to a 3-1 defeat against Inverurie Locos this afternoon. Cole Anderson’s second-half brace sealed victory for the Highland League side. This afternoon's friendly honoured the career of Greg Mitchell. The defender has enjoyed a thirteen year stint in Inverurie, having made 331 appearances for the Highland League side. The match was kicked off by Greg, who then left the field to a standing ovation to be replaced by Calum Dingwall. Locos began the contest on the front foot and with ten minutes on the clock, they had the lead. An intelligent reverse pass on the edge of the box found forward Dan Agnew, the number seven calmly rounded Simpson before rolling the ball into the empty net. The Dons began to settle into the contest, finding a leveller ten minutes later. Andrew Fasanya collected the ball in a wide area before showing a fantastic burst of pace to turn his marker and drive into the box, squaring it to Joseph Teasdale, who tapped home from point-blank range.

Aberdeen were now firmly in the ascendency and should have snatched the lead just before the half hour. Goalscorer Teasdale attempted to turn provider, driving into the box and flashing the ball across goal. His pass found an unmarked Gauld, who scooped the ball over the net. The home side were unlucky not to find a second of their own, a teasing ball from Agnew narrowly evaded full-back Green who was waiting to tap home at the far post. The young Dons continued to look a threat in the final third, particularly in wide areas. Full-back Dylan Ross was routinely galloping forward to swing an inviting cross into the box, all of them met by a well positioned home jersey. Nothing much to separate the two sides in the opening exchanges of the second period, a half chance for Max Pocklington from a corner was the only real attempt of note, his effort from 18 yards sailing over goalkeeper Ellis’ net. Locos’ first opportunity of the half came with 67 minutes on the clock, and it was one they took advantage of. A swift breakaway from a Dons corner gave Agnew the chance to drive into the final third, sliding in the overlapping Anderson who rifled his effort into the top corner of Simpson’s net. Anderson’s strike shifted the momentum in favour of Inverurie, with the Dons unable to generate the opportunities they had following Teasdale’s equaliser. Anderson, son of former Dons captain Russell, continued to cause the Dons defence problems, finding his second of the afternoon from the penalty spot with ten left to play. The Locos man wriggled his way into the Dons area, drawing a foul from James Jarvie, before rising to his feet to slot the penalty home for his second of the game. The young Dons were unable to mount a late fight back, with Anderson’s double ensuring the Highland League side would run out as victors. Thank you to Inverurie Locos for the match, and good luck for the upcoming season. Full-time - Inverurie Loco Works FC 3-1 Aberdeen Development
