Aberdeen Football Club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Sir Ian Wood CBE.

Sir Ian was one of the North-east's most influential and respected figures, whose contribution to Aberdeen, Scotland and far beyond extended well beyond the world of business.

Through his leadership, philanthropy and unwavering commitment to the region, he helped shape generations of opportunity and inspired countless people.

Everyone at Aberdeen Football Club extends our sincere condolences to Lady Helen, the Wood family and all who knew and loved Sir Ian at this sad time.

Club Chairman Dave Cormack said: "Sir Ian was a giant of Aberdeen and one of the defining figures in our city's modern history. His vision, entrepreneurial spirit and generosity helped transform not only industries, but also communities, creating opportunities that will benefit people for generations to come.

"While his achievements in business were remarkable, it was his deep commitment to Aberdeen and the North-east that made him such a respected and admired figure. He believed passionately in this city and consistently sought to make it a better place for those who lived and worked here.
