Hamilton Accies 2 Aberdeen Women 3 ScottishPower Women’s Premier League New Douglas Park Sunday 22 March
16-year old Mia Selbie had a full Aberdeen debut to remember, the young forward grabbing a goal and an assist to help send The Dons on their way to a big three points in North Lanarkshire.
Aberdeen Manager Scott Booth made six changes to his side that lost at home to Motherwell last week.
Anna Prawer came in in goal to make her first league appearance since her summer arrival, with Maddie Finnie returning at centre back.
Naomi McLaughlin and Erin Carrol stepped into midfield, the latter making her full Aberdeen debut after a handful of substitute appearances.
Introduced to lead the line was Francesca Ogilvie who captained the side, the number 13 joined by Selbie on the opposite flank, also making her full Dons debut last weekend. Kerry Beattie retained her spot and led the line.
Katie Cox, Jess Broadrick, Hannah Stewart, Emma Ilijoski and Eva Thomson all dropped to the bench – Bridget Galloway making way entirely. Keira MacPherson was named in the matchday squad for the first time since February 2025 after overcoming her ACL injury.
The match started evenly with both sides fighting for possession in midfield, but it was The Dons who opened the scoring after just 7 minutes.
A poor pass under pressure from Accies keeper Erin Halliday was intercepted by The Dons, before Selbie delivered a brilliant first-time cross into the box which was met perfectly by Ogilvie, who made no mistake with her header finding the top corner to give The Dons the lead.
The Dons continued to press for another goal and came close on the 20 minute mark, as a searching cross from out wide was met by Naomi but she could only send her header wide of the post.
Hamilton Accies almost managed to pull one back after 35 minutes, as Josephine Giard done well to turn her defender and her shot across goal from 20 yards out just whistled past the post.
The Dons continued to try and extend their lead, with Ogilvie and Mya Christie both seeing long range efforts saved by Halliday in the Hamilton goal.
Aberdeen continued to find joy on the wings to finish the first half, and came agonisingly close to doubling their lead when Selbie fired another pin-point cross into the box, but unfortunately Beattie could only send her header a few inches over the bar.
Half-time Hamilton Accies 0-1 Aberdeen.
Hamilton grew into the game during the early stages of the second half, and were able to take advantage of a mix-up between Toni Finnegan and Dons keeper Prawer, as Accies substitute Alex Davie was able to get between the two and poke the ball across goal to Josephine Giard who tapped into an empty net from 6 yards out. 1-1.
The game turned into a midfield battle with chances few and far between for either side.
With 15 minutes to go, some good play between Beattie and Brodie Greenwood created some space for Selbie, but her shot was deflected out for a corner.
The resulting corner was set into a crowded 6-yard box by Abi Tobin, and a scramble ensued before Selbie was able to send a header towards goal which was cleared by Accies but referee Stuart Broadfoot adjudged the ball to have already crossed the line, and The Dons restored their one goal lead.
The Dons extended their lead in the final few minutes, after Dons substitute Stewart chased down a through ball before racing past a defender and expertly rounding the keeper before firing into an empty net from a tight angle.
Hamilton refused to give up however and managed to pull a goal back in the dying minutes, as a corner from Rachel Howie was sent into the six yard box and, in similar fashion to Aberdeen’s second goal, a scramble broke out before the ball was headed into the net by Accies skipper Kirstie McIntosh.
Aberdeen managed to hold on however and picked up what was in the end a deserved victory at New Douglas Park.
