Aberdeen U20s defeated Huntly 2-0 at Christie Park this afternoon, in Paul Sheerin’s first match in charge. The game was a testimonial for Huntly’s long-serving player-coach Mark Gray.

Aberdeen lined up with Danny Rogers in goal, Sam Robertson at right back, Daniel Harvie at left back with Scott McKenna and Michael Rose in the centre of defence. In a 4-2-3-1 formation the sitting midfielders were Michael Kelly and Richie Petrie with Cem Felek in front of them along with Kalvin Orsi and Marcus Campanile. Michael Jones played up front.

The Dons took the lead after 19 minutes, when after a good move the highly impressive Kalvin Orsi took the ball in from the left-hand side before unleashing a superb right foot shot from about 25 yards which beat the stretching Huntly keeper Fraser Hobday.

Aberdeen doubled their advantage eight minutes before the break, with new signing Cem Felek striding forward before shooting at goal, with his strike taking an unfortunate deflection off Black and Golds defender Craig Dorrat on its way past Hobday.

The Dons had chances to increase their lead in the second-half, with Michael Rose’s header tipped over, while substitutes Scott Wright and Frank Ross were denied towards the end of the match. Michael Jones, who put in a power of work up front and held the ball up well, was unfortunate when he found himself through one on one with the keeper but the referee stopped the game for an injury.

Still, a very useful work out of the young Dons who now head to Portugal on Sunday evening for their pre-season training camp.
