Aberdeen Women Captain Hannah Stewart reflected on what is ultimately a solid point on the road away to Partick Thistle this afternoon, despite the circumstances making it feel like a defeat at Firhill after the Dons squandered a late two goal lead.
“I think the first half was hugely positive. We pressed them, we played the early ball well. We got the early goal and obviously Fran’s goal is a peach as well. Ultimately, I am disappointed to come away with just a draw. From 2-0 up with 15 to go we should see that out, but huge positives throughout, which we need to take into next week.”
“They are a good team. They were a top six team last season, and we didn’t take a point off them last season, so today shows our progress, and our togetherness that allows us to go out and put in a performance like that. We need to learn from our mistakes, learn from the goals we lost, but also take the positives out of it.”
“Right now it feels like a defeat. It feels a little bit like we have chucked it away, especially with such little time left. I felt like we were comfortable at times in the second half, but then they pile on the pressure. Two goals come from two balls into the box.”
“I think it comes down to mindset. We panic a little bit with so little time left when they are piling on the pressure, but we just need to stay calm. We need to defend our box first, and then try and get up the pitch. We need to keep the ball and give our defence a bit of time to get up, and then we can give them a little bit of pressure of our own as well.”
“When you look at the results last season you would have taken coming down here and getting a point, so although it is tough it is also testament to us that we were able to come down here and get a point.”
