Assistant Manager Tony Docherty spoke to the press today.
“I am really enjoying the job, I think we’ve got a really good squad of players here. They’ve impressed us, not just in their application, but they’re camaraderie and they way they are going about their jobs they’ve certainly shown a great response to us and myself and Derek are really enjoying working with them on the training field and hopefully we can take that into games.
“There’s a good spirit about the place and it’s important that you foster that.
“Everybody has been saying that Dundee have got a real motivation for the game and of course they have, they’ve done well recently, but we’ve got our own agenda and we’ve got a massive motivation for the game. We’ve got out of contract players, we’ve got young players coming through, players trying to catch the managers eye and we want to hopefully stay unbeaten so we’ve got a real motivation for the game and that’s been evident in the players training this week.
“John Brown has done a great job at Dundee. We’ve watched his team in recent weeks and their showing a real spirit as a group so he’s got to be commended for that and he’s got them in a position now that maybe people thought they wouldn’t be in a few weeks ago but all I can do is speak about Aberdeen and the preparation we’ll do and we’ll be endeavouring to win the game.
“Russell Anderson didn’t train today but he’ll come out and do a bit of light training tomorrow and we’ll assess that after training tomorrow.
“Of course, we have identified players (signing targets), recruitment is important for the club so we wouldn’t be doing our job if we’ve not done that but recruitment starts from within so the players that are here at the moment, we’re getting to see them on a daily basis which is great and watch this space!
“I’ve got to say there’s may things we’ve been impressed with at the club since arriving but certainly the Under 20’s, having just cemented second place in the league, and every game we’ve been at we come away feeling enthused and excited by these young players in terms of the future for Aberdeen. There is real quality in the Under 20’s then of course you look at it and it bodes well for Aberdeen Football Club.”
