Partick Thistle 1 Aberdeen 0 ScottishPower Women’s Premier League Sunday 16 November Petershill Park
Aberdeen Women lost 1-0 at the hands of Partick Thistle in Glasgow on Sunday afternoon, making it a horrid run of three weekends and three defeats at Petershill Park on the spin.
The hosts struck early in the first half, Aberdeen unable to muster up anything in response that would have saw them take something from the game.
Katie Cox returned in goals for the Dons, Anna Prawer unlucky to drop back to the bench after an excellent showing last week. Maddie Finnie returned from a short injury lay-off at the back, allowing Aimee Black to resume her new role up-front – Bridget Galloway amongst the substitutes. There was one other change in the form of Holly Daniel, she replaced Francesca Ogilvie.
New Partick boss Gary Holt made two changes from last weeks loss at Rangers for his first XI, Cheryl McCulloch and Jo Love introduced, Rosie Slater and Imogen Robinson making way.
Olivia King gave the Dons an early fright in the Petershill sun, a hopeful effort from the Partick No.10 sailing just wide of it’s intended target.
Daniel looked sharp in the opening stages, her low cross causing issues for the Partick defence. Kerry Beattie was first to react, her second attempt turned behind with a block after faint claims of a handball.
It was the hosts who would open the scoring after 17 minutes. A throw in behind the Dons defence was flicked on, Lia Tweedie managing to get in front of Finnie to head home from close range.
Beattie came close to levelling on 29, she controlled a perfect through ball from Stewart, the forward’s effort just about saved by ex-Don Currie then cleared off the line by Love despite it looking like it might just creep in.
Stewart was at the heart of everything going forward for Aberdeen, this time playing in Daniel who was unable to convert.
Tobin’s set-piece delivery earned a few more half chances, but Scott Booth’s side just couldn’t hit the back of the net.
Fair to say the Dons had the better of it throughout the first half, but found themselves behind at the break.
Half-time Partick Thistle 1-0 Aberdeen.
By the time the 60 minute mark swung around, the Dons had been unable to really threaten Currie in the second half. If anything, it was the hosts who looked like they might find the net again.
Katie Fraser’s long range effort rattled the woodwork, Cox saving smartly minutes later.
Booth called to his bench on 68, three substitutes introduced: Ogilvie, Miller, Christie on, Daniel, Tobin and Beattie off.
Both a corner and a free-kick in quick succession presented themselves as potential Aberdeen chances, again the Dons not able to do enough to test Currie.
Galloway and Alex Clarke were thrown on for the last ten minutes, Black and Stewart making way.
King saw red for Partick with five to play, sent off for a second bookable offence.
The Dons were unable to make their numerical advantage count in the closing stages, despite holding the majority of the pressure and creating more slight chances, Currie was again largely untested.
‘The chance’ looked to have fallen to Ogilvie who took down a high ball, the substitute denied by brave goalkeeping by her former teammate who took a fair whack in the process.
Eight minutes of additional time came and went, Christie coming closest from far out, Partick able to hold out to claim the three points.
Next up, the visit of Montrose to the Balmoral next weekend.
