Aberdeen collected their first points of the season with a confident performance at Balmoral Stadium.
Stuart Glennie made two changes to the side that started against Hibs, with Hannah Innes and Aimee Black replacing Natasha Bruce and Holly McEvoy.
The opening stages of the game were back and forth, with both defences standing strong and preventing any breaks into the box.
It was the home side that got the first real opportunity 12 minutes in when Hannah Innes struck a free kick from range towards goal. Lauren Perry remained calm as she collected the shot.
Craig Feroz’s side had a golden opportunity to break the deadlock six minutes later when a mix up between Jameison and Finnie gifted former Don Louise Brown with a shot at goal. Megan Sidey stood strong and palmed the shot out for a corner.
Aberdeen looked most likely to score as the match progressed and finally drew first blood in the 30th minute.
Niamh Noble hit a corner from the right that swung round the front post and past Perry to grab her first goal for the club.
Montrose made a habit of scoring goals during the latter stages of games last season and looked more threatening in the early stages of the second half.
Efforts from McLaren, Brown and Robb couldn’t trouble Sidey. The visiting support thought they finally saw a breakthrough when Demi Taylor hammered a shot from miles out. The ball had actually dipped over the bar.
Aberdeen did not relax however and grabbed their second of the game in the 64th minute.
Some clever play from Eva Thomson allowed loanee Emily Kraft to beat the offside trap and the ball past substitute keeper Pratt for the second and final goal of the game.
Following Wednesday’s win, Aberdeen welcome Celtic to the Balmoral Stadium on Sunday.
