Aberdeen Football Club Community Trust (AFCCT) and Aberdeen FC are urging football fans in the North-east to spread some Christmas cheer this festive season and help to ensure that children across the region wake up to a present from Santa this year.

AFCCT is once again lending its support to Northsound’s Cash for Kids Mission Christmas Appeal which collects donations of gifts or funds to make Christmas Day special for children living in poverty and who would otherwise wake up to nothing on Christmas morning.

A squad of AFCCT and AFC volunteers, including Dante Polvara, Shayden Morris and AFC Women players, Francesca Ogilvie, and Hannah Innes, will work at the Mission Christmas headquarters dealing with collections from the 140 drop-off points across the area, packing presents and loading vehicles to ensure gifts are delivered in time for Christmas.

Many of the youngsters who will benefit are among the most vulnerable children who along with their families, are supported by the Trust throughout the year.

“Everyone at AFC and AFCCT are proud to once again play a small part in helping to ensure Christmas remains a special time for every child in the North-east, regardless of circumstance”, said Liz Bowie, chief executive of AFCCT.

“The Cash for Kids Mission Christmas appeal remains a real lifeline for many who would suffer hardship, particularly at this time of year and despite it being a time of joy for many, it can be a really anxious period for those children living in difficult or disadvantaged circumstances.

“The thought of any child waking up on Christmas morning without a gift is heart-breaking and our mission is to make sure as many children as possible experience the wonder of Christmas this year.”

“Over the year the Red Army have been incredibly generous supporters of AFCCT and many of the wider community projects in Aberdeen city and shire, so I have no doubt they will once again play their part in helping to spread the Christmas spirit and show their support of this worthwhile campaign.”

Jamie Smith, Charity Manager at Cash for Kids, added: “This year we have seen a surge in applications across all of our granting and appeals. This campaign is no different, with under 2 weeks to go until the big day we have over 5,000 applications and this is still rising. More and more families need our help this year and so far, we have been overwhelmed with the support from the public and of course the help of AFCCT.

“The team of volunteers are as always a great joy to have up at HQ and a crucial part of the Mission Christmas operation. No child should wake up on Christmas morning without a gift, so we truly are on a Mission this Christmas!”
