Aberdeen’s Sky Sports Cup campaign for 2025/26 ended with a 2-0 loss at Glasgow City on Sunday afternoon.

Scott Booth’s side put in another credible performance on the road, two second half goals unravelling a good attempt to take the side that sit top of the tree in the league to extra-time in the Cup.

Dons boss Scott Booth made just one change to his side that started the identical fixture last week: Anna Prawer in-between the posts, as she was against Kilmarnock in the previous round, with Katie Cox dropping to the bench.

Alix Mendez also returned to the bench, Holly McEvoy making way.

City shuffled their pack and made six changes to the side that was victorious last week. In came Amy Muir, Hayley Lauder, Lisa Forrest, Linda Motlhalo, Mebae Tanaka, and Emma Brownlie, Lana Golob, Katie Lockwood, Abi Harrison, Emily Whelan, Amy Anderson, and Lisa Evans dropping out.

The opening 20 passed with little to note, Hannah Stewart firing well over from distance as we trundled towards the half-way point of the first 45. An evenly matched contest thus far.

The Dons continued to look an even match-up, Abi Tobin’s cross into the corridor of uncertainty looked like it might cause the home side an issue or two, before Brownlie turned the ball behind for an Aberdeen corner that brought no breakthrough for Scott Booth’s side.

Maata managed to escape Tobin’s grasp on 31, her darting run into the Dons box earning a corner at the other end. City looked sure to take the lead from the dead ball, Prawer at full stretch able to tip onto the crossbar.

Half-time, Glasgow City 0-0 Aberdeen.

City called on the firepower at half-time, bringing on both Nicole Kozlova and Evans – Maata and Chloe Warrington making way.

Unsurprisingly City started the 45 strong, creating a flurry of half chances without being able to really work Prawer. There was some concern when Tobin went down, the wide player thankfully eventually able to continue.

Wrobel was next to test Prawer, the deputising ‘keeper saving low with her feet as the clock struck 60 minutes in Springburn. For the second week in a row Ogilvie was forced off with a knock, Holly Daniel on in her place.

Again the ‘keeper was called into action to deny Motlhalo from close range, after what was an excellent initial block from Finnegan. The City pressure finally resulted in the opening goal just a minute later, Kozlova sending an excellent effort from the edge of the box into the back of the net, leaving Prawer with no chance. 1-0.

City managed to find their second goal after 75 minutes, the recently introduced Katie Lockwood diverting home from a corner. Advantage doubled, 2-0.

Beattie’s race was run not long after with the striker forced off – Darcie Miller on in her place.

Substitute Harrison should really have made it three when she met Kozlova’s cross from close range, the number nine’s effort turned behind.

With the game petering out, Prawer made one more excellent stop at full stretch to deny a third for the hosts. An impressive display from the ‘keeper on only her second competitive outing for the Dons.

Aberdeen Women are back in Springburn and back at Petershill next weekend, they return to league action to take on Partick Thistle.
