Despite the disappointment of Saturday, Donervorn Daniels became an instant hit with the Red Army.
The defender, brought in on loan from West Brom, scored on his debut and was only inches away from grabbing a second – highlighting just how fine the lines are between success and failure at this level. After the game he spoke to RedTV:
“It was a bittersweet afternoon for me at Hampden. It was very frustrating.
“The goal was an incredible feeling. It is difficult to describe how good it felt but in the end we did not get the victory that I thought we deserved. It was gut wrenching. I felt as a back six including Jacko we were strong but there were individual mistakes.
“I was over the moon scoring my goal but I would trade it for a place in the final all day long. It was a really hard one for the team to take and it will be hard for the team to take for quite a few days this week.
“I thought I had scored a second one but the officials said it never crossed the line.
“It’s definitely the biggest game of my career so far. I knew it was going to be a tough challenge and although I was prepared physically and mentally I could not have done it with the support of the fans.
“The support since I came here has been incredible. The welcome they gave me on social media and the support of the boys in the dressing room helped me a lot and gave me the encouragement to go out there and enjoy my football.
“I would like to thank the fans for giving me so much love early on.
“It’s bittersweet but I’m now just looking forward to each game, so I can keep learning and keep experiencing the big occasions. I didn’t know much about Scottish football, to be honest, but I am a quick learner. I like to experience big occasions and I like to be thrown in at the deep end.
“We have to keep focussed and now concentrate on the league. We have enough in that dressing room to do well in every game we play between now and the end of the season. We have to stay strong as a team and keep working hard.”
