Derek McInnes' reaction to Dundee draw

The manager gave his reaction after the 1-1 draw at Dens Park “I thought we deserved a point. “I did not think there was much between the sides in terms of performance but we created far more chances. Their goalkeeper has pulled off a couple of good saves. We were also so guilty of being wasteful in front of goal and we have been like that quite a few times against Dundee this season. We have not taken full advantage of those chances. “In the first half we make one mistake defensively. We should have gone and dealt with the situation and they have taken advantage with a good finish.

“I thought we deserved a point.

We then have work to do to get back into the game. We chopped and changed a bit as we tried to force the issue but we were never too convincing in terms of chances created in the second half. We went to a diamond formation eventually and I am just pleased we managed to get a point to send the fans home happy.

“I thought for a sheer perseverance we deserved a draw at the very least. On chances created over the 90 minutes we were the better side. The pitch was dry which did allow either team to get any tempo into the game.

“Adam has now scored 28 goals and he has won his little personal bet with me! With 18 games to go I asked him to get double figures and he has now got 10 goals in his last 18 games which is a great effort. He is a fox in the box – he lives in that six yard box. When other players switch off or are following the ball he is switched on and alert and that is why he has scored as many goals.

“I do think as a team we cannot be relying on Adam’s goals all the time and I go back to the first half when we should have taken one of our chances. Today was an opportunity for one or two players and I think the performance could have been better.

“It was my decision to put Scott Brown up for a corner. It is the first time I have done that as a manager.”
