“I was really pleased with the three points because for a long period it looked as if it wasn’t going to go our way.
“I thought Motherwell were the better team in the first half, you could see how important the points are to them and they came here with a bit of confidence and they deserved all the credit in the first half. They played with purpose and they played with more aggression than us.
“We picked a system as we anticipated Motherwell getting the ball forward quickly to their front two and we played a system with three at the back to try and deal with that but I don’t think that helped us.
“There was a change in formation which helped turn it our way but to me it was more the change in our demeanour that was the biggest thing.
“The players showed exactly in the second half how important the three points were to us and they deserve a lot of credit for that.
“It could be the most important three points of the season for us you never know.
“In the build up to the first goal Lasley showed the importance of winning a challenge and we could have been stronger there. In the second half we were stronger and won every challenge, every second ball and there was far more aggression, purpose and tempo to our play and the game went our way then and we deservedly got our lead.
“It’s a reminder as although there a lot of points between us and Motherwell at this stage of the season every point is precious for so many teams and you saw that in Motherwell’s performance.
“It was just a gut decision to change having watched Jamie (Langfield) in the U20 game during the week and I just felt it was the right thing to do. Scott has been doing fine but having watched both keepers closely over the last while we just felt it was the right decision. We have got two good keepers there and good competition, the same as we have got in every other area of the pitch.
“When Ash went out the team he was arguably our best player and we were on a good run at the time, he was missed and we are glad to have him back.
“We are into a 10 game season and we just try and win as many of them as possible.
“From the last 15 league games we have won 12, drawn 2 and lost 1. That’s brilliant consistency and if we can get anything near that from our last ten games we will be pleased with our work this season.”
