“I thought the win was thoroughly deserved.

“I thought we showed lots of different aspects of our game tonight. We showed pace, we showed a good confidence in the final third at times, and when it was required a real determination and character and organisation to see the game out.

“It was disappointing to lose the goal before half time.

“We had two or three chances to clear the danger. It gave them a lifeline and a bit impetus going into the second half.

“They changed it and pretty much went 4-2-4 and went much more direct. They knocked it back to front and asked questions of us in central defence. When we went to a back five and got an extra body in there (Andrew Considine) which then allowed our two midfielders to go up against their two the game settled down for us and the last 25 minutes were quite comfortable.

“Other than a 20 minute period when they had a bit of momentum I thought it was a very comfortable night's work. I am not surprised we got a result. We could have scored a few more later on.

“Every player did their job brilliantly.

“When we had to defend we did. Anderson, Considine when he came into the middle, Reynolds and Shay all defended really well. We restricted them to long range shots. Saying that they have players who can score from distance and a few times Jamie had to be aware.

“The result was no more than we deserved. The onus was on them to ask questions and as I say we were comfortable for long periods.

“I expected us to defend well. I expected us to break well. I expected the first pass to positive. The boys carried out their work really well tonight. There were some really strong performances. I have a huge regard for what I have in that dressing room. There are some good types. There will be some good times ahead this season and beyond.”
