Derek McInnes on RedTV

Derek McInnes spoke to RedTV after the game on Sunday: “Simon went off with an ankle injury. It is the same injury he had against Motherwell last week. We always took a risk with that. We knew if he took a kick on it again he could have a problem and that is what happened. It was painful for him to put his weight through it. Hopefully the injury will settle down for him but I think he would have to be a doubt for Thursday. “We played Kenny up front as a striker and he was outstanding. Wherever we play Kenny, his performances are excellent.

“We played Kenny up front as a striker and he was outstanding. Wherever we play Kenny, his performances are excellent. Whether it be in centre midfield, the number 10 position or as striker.  Getting Jonny closer to him gave us a threat and caused them problems. We were then able to use Jonny’s pace in behind.

“The players deserve a lot of credit for showing that fighting spirit in the second half.

“We will be looking for the players to show the same effort and focus as they have all season in our final two games and that will hopefully lead to two home wins so we can finish the season strongly.

“We still have a lot to play for in these two final games, especially in trying to better last season’s points tally.

“The points total is important to me.

“To do that, we will have to win our final two games of the season and even though both are at home, that won’t be an easy task. But with the backing of the home support, we are more than capable of taking six points from the two games and continuing the real progress we have made here in the last three seasons.”
