Motherwell reflections

“I think we needed it. Off the back of kind of an up-and-down start to the season, the cup win was a big boost, especially in the way that we did it. I think we showed kind of what we’re about in that win.

“And then the idea going into the game was obviously to kind of not just grind out a performance, but kind of show what we’re about as well and show our qualities. And I think we showed a good mix of that.

“I think we grinded it out at times, they’re a team that like to keep possession, and we showed that we can defend deep and also press when we get the chance, and we took our chances really well when they came. I thought we showed quality at times, and we could have shown a little bit more quality at times as well, but to come out of the game winning 4-0 is huge and a big confidence boost.”

Mentality

“Obviously, you never want to be on a pitch with 10 men, but I think that’s a good image of kind of who we want to be as a team. We want to be hard to beat, and we want to kind of have that base of being a team that’s hard to beat, and the other stuff comes after.

“And I think we kind of showed that the next game against Motherwell in an 11 v 11 game, where the first 15, 20 minutes, we know they’re a team that like to keep the ball and they were playing some nice stuff.

“I felt like, for all the possession that they had, we didn’t really give them any clear-cut chances. And I think when you go away to teams like that, we’re kind of happy to do that, happy to frustrate teams and stay in the game, and then as the game goes on and it opens up, we kind of show what we can do as well.”

The challenge of Hibs

“I think it’s hard when you play a team that’s obviously just lost the manager, expecting a reaction and a bounce-back. Again, I don’t think it changes how we kind of go into the game.

“We’ll go into the game probably with a similar approach to the last game, trying to frustrate, and then when we get our chances, have that quality and put the ball in the net.”

Personal form

“I think, like I just spoke about then, for the team getting that confidence boost, it’s a big confidence boost for myself as well.

“I feel like my form has kind of gone with how the team’s form has gone. It’s been a little bit up and down and not as consistent as I would have liked, and some games I’ve not been as influential as I would have liked.

“So I think getting a goal and the assist after kind of just gives you confidence going to the next one, and it gives you that almost belief again that you can go out and score goals and affect games. And yeah, I’m going to try and build on that now.”

“I played there once or twice with St Mirren (Easter Road) I remember scoring there once as well. Any stadium you score at, I feel like you’ve got good memories there.”

Team spirit

“I think that’s the best way you can do it, to be honest (gelling through wins). I think when you get a lot of new players in, there’s obviously a lot of people trying to learn maybe a different style of football and what the manager wants, and we’re obviously trying to do that.

“But if you can win while you’re doing that, I feel like it just speeds that process up even more, and you feel it around the place. You know, two wins on the bounce, and especially in the manner that we’ve done it, where you get one where you really grind one out and then you get one where you put on a really good performance and score a couple of goals.

“I feel like it just lifts the energy around the place and, just speeds up that chemistry.”
