Aberdeen FC has been sanctioned by the SPFL following two incidents during the Club's recent Premier Sports Cup quarter-final tie against Kilmarnock. The incidents involved a large-scale organised and illegal pyrotechnics display, as well as a pitch incursion at the end of the match at Rugby Park. Following a disciplinary hearing, Aberdeen FC has been issued with an immediate reduction of 500 tickets from its allocation for the Premier Sports Cup semi-final against Rangers at Hampden Park on Saturday 31st October. As part of the sanction, the Club is also required to cover the cost of these tickets. The Club has consistently reminded supporters that the use of pyrotechnics and other unacceptable behaviour can lead to sanctions which directly impact fellow fans. This latest decision demonstrates the significant consequences such incidents can have, not only for the Club, but for supporters who simply want to follow and back the team. The SPFL has made it clear that further breaches will likely result in even more severe sanctions in future, including additional reductions to ticket allocations and further financial penalties. Supporters should also be aware that anyone found in possession of, or using, a pyrotechnic device, or entering the field of play without authorisation, may face criminal proceedings and a potential criminal record, receive a football banning order and be prohibited from attending matches at Pittodrie and away venues. The vast majority of Aberdeen supporters represent the Dons brilliantly both home and away, creating an atmosphere that is widely recognised across Scottish football. Unfortunately, such incidents risk detracting from that reputation and, more importantly, can impact the ability of fellow supporters to attend matches. We therefore ask all supporters to consider the consequences of their actions and to help protect the matchday experience for everyone. The Club wants as many members of the Red Army as possible to be able to support the team at major fixtures, and it is vital that we work together to ensure future ticket allocations are not affected.
