The Dons got 2024 off to the best possible start with a 3-0 win at Ross County and manager Barry Robson was pleased that his team had quickly turned things around from last Saturday’s defeat.
“The St Mirren game annoyed the players as well as me, and they knew they need to react quickly, and they did. Some of the football today was very, very good. From start to finish we looked really at it, we looked a proper team and I was really pleased.
“We’ve tried to change systems within games at times, but today we started with a back four and it worked against Ross County. They like to play 4-2-2-2 and box things up in the middle, so we thought the system we played today would work against them, and it did.
“You can talk about systems all you want but when the players have been at their best it’s when we’ve pressed the ball, when we’ve counter-pressed and played through the lines quickly and we did all those things today. When we do that, we’re a proper team.
“We’ve been under a lot of scrutiny all season, you expect that at a big club, but we always knew the first half of the season was going to be difficult. We’ve all learnt lessons, players and staff.
“Now we need to come back after the break and make sure we really get after it, like we did last season. We need to work on our consistency, that’s something we have to get better at over the rest of the season. We’re looking forward to having a little reset and then coming back to it at Clyde.”
