Ashton Taylor returned to the starting XI on Friday night. He had another very good game, in what has been a very good season so far for the central defender. After the game he spoke to RedTV:
“I felt it was always going to be a scrappy game. They are fighting for their lives so it was always going to be one of those games. Credit to Motherwell as they made life difficult for us in that first half.
“We showed a different side to us tonight.
“We showed that we can match up, battle hard for every ball and put our bodies on the line for the win. We are not just a side that plays football. We can do the other side as well. We also showed character coming from a goal behind.
“I am definitely claiming the goal! I put the spin on it! The keeper is a bit unlucky. He has gone to claw it back but the spin has made it hard for him and the ball has gone in. He was unfortunate but we would not have scored had I not got the header in.
“Injuries are always frustrating but it was even more so this time around for me because the team were flying when the injury happened. I missed out on a number of important games. Thankfully that is all in the past now and I am back fighting fit. I am delighted to be back in the team and hopefully will remain there until the end of the season.
“I thought my performances before the injury were coming along well so it was important that I came back in and hit the ground running tonight. I need to keep the level of performances high to help the team out. Donervorn has done well for us and there is a lot of competition for places as we have got a very strong team.
You can tell that by looking at the bench. It is important to use that squad at this stage of the season. It is all about the squad. Everyone is capable of chipping in.
“We will take every game as it comes. Between now and the end of the season, in every game we will need to fight for the three points. The next game is Dundee and we now focus on that.”
