On Saturday The Dons defeated Kilmarnock at Pittodrie and there was plenty going on with Aberdeen FC Community Trust to add to a great day!
Junior Matchday Club had a great turnout with over 50 Kids aged between 5 – 12 years old enjoying an hour of football at ASV before the big game at Pittodrie. AFCCT also welcomed 30 kids from the Aberdeen Mosque and Islamic Centre along to the Junior Matchday Club. AFCCT’s SFA Football Equity Officer Harley Hamdani said “It’s fantastic to see the integration of all communities at AFCCT initiatives. All of the kids thoroughly enjoyed their day and are looking forward to the next one.“
Senior Matchday Club also returned with 15 over 65 year olds enjoying a Health Walk before the match.
AFCCT staff & volunteers were also in the RDS Concourse promoting all of AFCCT’s programmes before the match. AFCCT will have a stand at AFC’s next home game against Hamilton on Sunday 3rd April prior to kick off. Please feel free to speak to AFCCT staff to find out more about AFCCT
On the pitch at half-time there was a skills display from girls who attend the AFC Community Trust Girls Advance Centres. The Advance Centres look to develop 1v1 individual skills, and give young players an opportunity to improve their technical ability by receiving extra skills coaching on a weekly basis. The girls aged 9 -11 taking part in the display come from various grassroots clubs across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
For Saturday's match Intermoor, AFC, Sodexo & Apache all contributed towards inviting along AFCCT & Alzheimer Scotland programme participants who are living with Dementia. Six people living with Dementia were invited to attend the match along with a family member or carer to enjoy the match in a safe and comfortable environment. The wife of one of the gentlemen who attended said “It was great to feel ‘normal’ for the day.”
Connor, aged 6 from Stonehaven, attended his first ever football game on Saturday. Connor lives with Autism and was invited to attend the game by AFCCT. Connor loved the game, atmosphere and the excitement around him in the stands and is looking forward to cheering on the team in future matches. Connor was delighted to see his team win on the day.
