Aberdeen were back at home for their 2nd pre-season friendly of 2025/26, taking on recently relegated Dundee Utd. Two new signings were handed their first starts for the club as goalkeeper Anna Prawer and fullback Abigail Tobin slotted into the starting XI.

The Dons were held to a 1–1 draw by Dundee United in a competitive pre-season outing at Balmoral Stadium. Kerry Beattie’s well-taken first-half strike was cancelled out after the break by Alix Moodie.

Report:

The game’s first real opening came early, as Darcie Miller burst through one-on-one against her former teammate Annalisa McCann. Neither striker nor goalkeeper were willing to back down from the loose ball, resulting in a crunching 50-50 challenge that McCann narrowly won.

Holly Daniel nearly opened the scoring soon after, latching onto a clipped Finnegan free kick in behind. The new signing brought the ball down superbly before striking just wide of the far post.

Daniel was at the heart of things again minutes later, delivering a sumptuous cross into the box that Kerry Beattie just failed to connect with at full stretch.

Aberdeen began to assert their authority, confidently shifting the ball and pinning Dundee United into their own half for prolonged spells. But the SWPL 2 side carried a threat of their own and carved out a couple of nervy moments just before the half-hour.

A United corner fell kindly to a United player whose effort forced a sharp reaction save from Anna Prawer. The new goalkeeper tipped the ball onto the post to keep things level.

The breakthrough finally came on 37 minutes. Abigail Tobin threaded a perfectly weighted pass through to Beattie, who made no mistake. The striker opened up her body and curled an audacious finish in off the far post to give the Dons the lead.

Half Time Aberdeen 1-0 Dundee Utd.

The Dons nearly made the ideal start to the second half when Jessica Broadrick’s long ball picked out Tobin’s overlapping run. The fullback whipped in an inch-perfect low cross that Miller guided just into the side netting.

Ilijoski enjoyed a standout afternoon in an unfamiliar midfield role. The Australian found pockets of space to drive into going forward, while also putting in a solid shift defensively. She played a superb ball in behind for Tobin, whose cross flashed through the box without a finishing touch.

The visitors found an equaliser in the 66th minute. A floated Dundee United cross wasn’t dealt with, and Alix Moodie was on hand to fire over Prawer and level the score.

Aberdeen pushed for a response but, much like the first half, struggled to carve out clear-cut chances. Eva Thomson, Ilijoski, and Daniel each tried their luck from distance, only to see their efforts comfortably gathered by McCann.

With five minutes to play, Scott Booth rolled the dice with a triple substitution in search of a winner, but it wasn’t to be as the match ended all square.
