Aberdeen 7 vs St. Johnstone 1

Cormack Park

Pre-Season

Saturday 12th July 2025

Aberdeen Women took on SWPL2 side St. Johnstone Women in their first pre-season fixture of 2025 at sunny Cormack Park. Scott Booth named a strong starting lineup, hoping his side would get back into the rhythm of things. New signing Holly Daniel was named on the bench, whilst youngster Amber Signorimi was given a chance to impress in between the sticks.

Kerry Beattie opened the scoring for the home side before goals from Darcie Miller, Hannah Stewart, and Aimee Black followed in the first half.

A flurry of changes followed in the second period, but the goals did not let up. Miller would score the goal of the afternoon with a brilliant strike before the Saints pulled one back. Daniel would score a late brace on her debut to seal victory.

Report:

10 minutes in, Hannah Stewart linked up with Ogilvie down the right, and the Dons’ Player of the Year for 24/25 showed excellent awareness to square the ball across goal for Beattie to tap home with ease.

St Johnstone’s high line was punished once again as 3 minutes later. Darcie Miller raced in the clear and took her time with the finish, and she slotted the ball down the keeper’s left to double her side’s lead.

The hosts added a third when Aimee Black reacted quickest to a spilt Stewart corner, showing strikers instincts to flick the ball in while falling backwards after 21 minutes. A terrific way to open her career in the No. 5 shirt.

Just before the half-hour mark, Aberdeen got their fourth. Beattie wriggled her way towards goalbefore unselfishly laying it off to her captain, Stewart, who curled a first-time effort into the bottom right corner.

Stewart nearly found the back of the net once again with a beautifully bended strike from outside the box with her weaker left foot which kissed the post on the stroke of the break.

Half Time Aberdeen 4-0 St. Johnstone.

Aberdeen made seven half-time changes to keep things fresh, with Jessica Broadrick taking the captain’s armband for the second 45 minutes.

An instinctive counterattack would finish with Darcie Miller finding the back of the net once again. Holly McEvoy’s interception gave her forward the courage to race into the box. McEvoy would play through Miller, who provided a ruthless finish into the top right corner to extend the lead to 5-0.

The second period was not as free scoring as the first. St Johnstone kept pushing and were eventually rewarded with a late consolation with four minutes to play.

A minute later, Daniel would respond, coolly slotting into the far corner for a debut goal.

Daniel would cap off the dominant display as she remained the most aware of Broadrick’s clearance as she ran clean through before rounding the keeper to see out a comfortable 7-1 Aberdeen win.

Reaction from Scott Booth

It just felt like a first pre-season game, to be honest. A lot of rustiness, a lot of untidiness in our play, but at the same time, there were some good things as well, some good goals. You come out of it knowing there’s still a lot of work to do. We’ve only been back just under two weeks.

“It’s a win, which is a good thing in the first game. We’ve played against them before, and I think we made it even harder for ourselves last time. This time, I think we were a little further ahead. We recognised how they play and dealt with it quite well.

“Now we’ve got a two-week spell without a game, that was intentional. We want to use that time to work, maybe bring in a few more players, get on the training pitch, tidy things up, and give the players a proper block to get familiar with each other again, getting their touch and decision-making back, so we’re ready to go into the United friendly.

“It was good to see Amber get a start today. She’s done great since coming into the squad. She needs to play games, and we know that, so it was good for her to start.

“Holly, I think you can clearly see can score goals. She’s an awkward player to play against, which is great for us.

“Young Jess Christie done well. Jess is another one who needs games. We’re working on figuring out the best path for both Amber and Jess.

“It’s been a tough couple of weeks. Pre-season is always hard, and the heat has made it especially challenging. But all good—first game, first win.”
