AFC POTY | Hat-trick of awards for Hayes

The fifth AFC Player of the Year Dinner, sponsored by Universal Inspection (UK) Ltd took place this evening at the AECC. The event was yet again a complete sell out as the Red Army turned out in force for an occasion that is now firmly established as one of the highlights of Aberdeen’s social calendar.

The first award of the night was won by Scott Brown as he was named as Aberdeen FC Community Trust’s Community Supporter of the year for the work that he has carried out throughout the season with AFC’s partner charity.

The focus then turned to youth as Scott McKenna was named as Development Player of the Year for his contribution to Paul Sheerin’s U20 side over the course of the season.

Scott was quickly followed by another Dons youngster as Craig Storie was named Young Player of the Year in what has been his breakthrough season after a tough time with injuries over the past few years.

From then on it was Jonny Hayes’ night as he lifted the Goal of the Season award for his magnificent strike against Celtic here at Pittodrie in early February.

Next up was the Players Player of the Year award which was voted for by all of the players through a private ballot and it was Jonny’s turn to get up to the stage to collect the award.

At the end of the award ceremony it was time for the Player of the Year Award which came down to three players with Jonny Hayes, Shay Logan and Graeme Shinnie picking up the most votes from The Red Army. In the end it was Jonny Hayes who completed a hat-trick of awards on the night as the recipient of the Player of the Year award.
