Here is a small taster of the recent activity that various representatives of the football club have undertaken this past fortnight in our efforts to interact with our local community.

On Monday morning last week, the AFC in the Community team visited four local primary schools: Seaton, Riverbank, Walker Road & Tullos to give away strips and pairs of complimentary tickets for the Aberdeen v Kilmarnock match on Saturday 27th April. Alongside Angus the Bull, our coaches treated the children to some coaching and fun activities during their morning assemblies.

AFC in the Community helped out staff at Ernst & Young during their recent visit to Tanzania by offering AFC football kit to hand out to kids in the areas visited. Pictured is our new Dons fans wearing the kit they received.

Thursday 18th April saw the launch of “Celebrating Aberdeen’s Beach Ballroom – History & Memories 1929-2009”, hosted at the iconic venue itself. AFC in the Community’s Steven Sweeney went along with Alice Brooks, Events Manager from Aberdeen City Council’s 50+ Festival to the unveiling of the 172 page volume, which is packed with memories of the 84 year old famous landmark.

Sport Aberdeen’s Active Ageing Programme, in partnership with AFC in the Community, introduced Walking Football at Torry Sports Centre on Thursday 18th April and AFC Ambassadors and former players Ally Shewan and Jimmy Wilson joined the participants for the first kick of the ball.
