Aberdeen Football Club has developed a strong working relationship with AFC Ladies in recent months, growing the women’s and girl’s game in the City. Both parties recently got together at Pittodrie to share ideas and raise awareness of the positive work currently being undertaken on both parties. John Dickie & Ally Prockter, of AFC Ladies and AFC in the Community respectively, delivered presentations to the audience which included AFC Ladies players and management, AFC Ladies Youth Coaches and AFC in the Community part-time and full-time staff. Feedback on the evening from both parties was extremely positive.

John Dickie from AFCL said, ‘Aberdeen FC Ladies are happy to be involved with the Aberdeen FC Community Trust Initiative, if AFCL can help foster links with AFCITC to support the women’s game in the North it would be mutually beneficial to both Clubs.’

Head of AFC in the Community Ally Prockter sees AFC Ladies as an excellent example of how to better promote female participation in sport across the North East of Scotland. He states, “AFC Ladies are an increasingly successful, and very well run, football club. Not only are they effectively representing Aberdeen and the North East of Scotland in national competitions, the club is also doing all it can to develop local girls and young women to take part in Scotland’s national sport.”

Ally continues, “AFC Ladies have some excellent players in their ranks, and these players are shining examples of how women can advance in sport. Using these successful players as positive role models is one small way of encouraging other females to take part in whatever sport they like. AFC in the Community will do what we can to better publicise their successes, and will always work towards getting more females involved in any kind of sport. Playing, coaching, managing or refereeing in any sport has numerous positive benefits, and I encourage those who are thinking about it to take that initial positive step and just GO FOR IT!!

Looking ahead, AFC in the Community and AFC Ladies are committed to working together to drive female football participation and performance in the area forward.
