“The result in the first leg is certainly up there as being one of the best team performances I have been part of. Most people just thought if we nicked a goal, maybe got a draw and were able to take the tie back to Pittodrie we would be doing well. Obviously to go over there and get the 3-0 win was a brilliant result. Not many people expected that.

“The game plan worked a treat and it obviously gives us a chance to progress but obviously now we need to make sure we get through.

“It is important everyone stays focussed. We should not be getting carried away or getting complacent. They are a very good team who could easily put in a big performance. You could see in the first 15-20 minutes in Croatia that they were really on top of us. They had a number of good chances and hit the post. If one of them had gone in it could have been a completely different game. We have to make sure we do not give them any opportunities to get back into the tie.

“At the minute we are in a strong position but it is important it stays like that.

“We did our homework on them, we watched a lot of footage to see their style of play and what type of players they have, but it is hard sometimes to work out what a team are like until you actually play them. It is hard to work out how they compare to players we normally play against. But we very quickly realised that they were very good. All the players had good technical ability and their movement was excellent. That just really highlights how good a result we got over there.

“As I say we must not get complacent because they are more than capable of rolling teams over by three or four goals.

“If we can show that type of performance and commitment level and do it consistently throughout the year I am sure we will have a brilliant season. The main aim and target for us now is to make sure we keep doing that, whether it be in training or in games. We need to be producing that level of effort.

“We have a squad now where even if we pick up a couple of injuries we have players who can slot in like for like. Everyone has to keep pushing themselves and keep themselves motivated throughout the year. It is still very early days and the hard part is keeping it going over a whole season. I know the manager and Tony will not let our standards drop and demand that we keeping playing at that level, starting with the game tomorrow night.”
