Miko Virtanen has this evening joined Championship side Arbroath on loan for the remainder of the season.

The midfielder, who can also play at right back, is a Finland U19 Internationalist and next week will join up with the Finnish U21 squad.

As it is a standard temporary transfer Miko can still play selected games for Paul Sheerin’s Reserve side.

The 20-year-old officially joined Everton’s Academy at the age of 16, signing scholarship forms in July 2015 and was part of the U18 squad at Goodison Park for two seasons before moving to Aberdeen in October 2017.

After impressing in the Development Squad over the past couple of seasons, Miko was rewarded with a new contract during the summer and signed a two-year deal with the Pittodrie club.

He is the latest Dons youngster to go out on loan, joining Chris Antoniazzi (Cove Rangers), David Dangana (Stranraer), Frank Ross (Ayr United) and Danny Rogers (Greenock Morton).

Everyone wishes Miko well during his spell at Gayfield.
