Defender Tommie Hoban has this morning joined Aberdeen on a season long loan from English Premier League side Watford.

The 24-year-old, who was handed his first team debut as a 16 year old by Malky Mackay, has made close to 60 appearances for Watford, in addition to playing 20 odd games for Blackburn Rovers in the Championship, where he was on loan during season 2016-7.

Although born in London, Tommie, who is 6’ 2”, qualifies for the Republic of Ireland through his immediate family and has represented them at Under 17, Under 19, where he was captain, and Under 21 levels.

The new Red, who has been allocated squad number 28, will go straight into contention for tomorrow evening’s Europa League 2nd Qualifying Round First Leg clash against Burnley at Pittodrie pending the receipt of his International clearance.

Manager Derek McInnes is pleased to have secured the services of the Watford man:

“Tommie is a player we had last week and thankfully we managed to get the deal resurrected.

“First and foremost he’s an excellent defender and it’s well known that we’ve been in the market for another defender and to get a player of his quality from Watford is a great piece of business. Although he can play anywhere in the defence, centre back is his preferred position.”

RedTV Interview to follow with the Dons new defender  this morning.
