To mark the 30th anniversary of the European Cup Winners’ Cup final victory over Real Madrid, the RedMatchday team produced a one off publication.

‘The Year of The Dons’ is still on sale in the Pittodrie club shop priced at £5. If you would like to buy a copy online please click here.

‘The Year of the Dons’ is a full review of the 1982/83 season.

The 100 page programme takes you through the incredible season that saw the Dons set out to win the European Cup Winners’ Cup, along with teams such as Tottenham Hotspur, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Galatasaray, Austria Vienna, Panathinaikos, Red Star Belgrade, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Slovan Bratislava, Real Madrid and IFK G?teborg.

We take you though that incredible run that landed up with Sir Alex Ferguson leading the side to that famous victory in Gothenburg.

We also chart the domestic campaign that brought many memorable moments. From pre-season, to the first game of the season against Morton in the League Cup through to Rangers at Hampden in the Scottish Cup, we relive all the action.

The Dons could and should have won the League after getting their noses in front, and especially after twice beating Celtic at Parkhead 3-1. However the European run began to take it’s toll and they lost a crucial match against Dundee United after the famous win over Bayern. On the final day of the season, Dundee United, Celtic and Aberdeen were still in with a shout of winning the title as the Premier Division came to a dramatic conclusion. To finish the season off there was a cup final victory over Rangers, a final that has become famous, particularly down south, after Sir Alex Ferguson’s post-match interview.

Housed in a special Paine Proffitt cover, this is the last, most comprehensive word on “The Year of the Dons”.
