Nicky Devlin admitted that the Dons have gone through a difficult spell over Christmas after falling to defeat at Hibs on Tuesday night.

“The game was similar to Dundee United. The effort was there, we’re trying hard, but we’re lacking a bit of quality in both boxes at the moment. Between the boxes we’re looking ok, but we’re having a spell where we’re picking the wrong option or making mistakes. We know we have to be better than that.

“The first goal we seemed like we had good possession and then we were just too open, and we know Hibs are really, really good in those situations. They’re really good on the transition, they’ve got quick players in forward areas and once we gave the ball away, we left ourselves too open and then they punished us. We have to be a wee bit more street wise and then as I said, when we get opportunities in the final third, show a wee bit more quality.

“Saying that, although the last three games have been disappointing, it’s not the end of the world when you look at the run over the last ten games where we’ve only lost a couple in the league. We need to get back to the standards we’ve had in that run and start to pick up again. We know how important that is.

“Players will have to be looking over their shoulder if the results don’t improve. We’ve got a big squad and if we’re not winning games then no one can think that their position is safe, no one can think that they’re guaranteed to play all the time. As players you should never be too comfortable in the team, you have to be performing well to make sure the club don’t look at bringing someone in in your position.

“We want to get back on track at the weekend, but we know Falkirk is going to be difficult. They’re really strong at home, they’re still probably riding on the momentum of back-to-back promotions, which is an unbelievable achievement for them.

“We lost against them this year at home so we know how difficult they can be, they play a certain style, it’s difficult to deal with at times, but we’ll dust ourselves down and have a game plan going into that to try and win the game.”
