Jamie McGrath was happy to see the Dons able to win ugly against Ross County as they moved further away from the division’s danger zone.
“We all knew how important the game was. We’re under no illusions about where we are in the league, we knew we had to get three points and thankfully we did that. I don’t think we’ve played at our best, but it’s probably one of the only times this season that we’ve won ugly, which is very satisfying.
“I think we defended brilliantly. We were sloppy on a set piece to let them get back in the game, but overall, I think we probably shaded things, even though we weren’t at our best.
“We know Peter Leven really well, we’ve worked with him all season. We have full belief in what he does and we love playing under him. I just didn’t think we were at our best for whatever reason. Some boys were away with international duty and we got back in late Thursday and trained towards the game on Friday.
“It wasn’t ideal preparation, but we’ll take a scrappy win every week for the rest of the season if we get three points. A lot of times we’ve played well this season and not got results, so to come away with three points regardless of how we played was all that mattered.
“Duk and Dante came on and I thought they probably won us the game. We need people hungry to come on and make a difference, and hungry to start like Nicky Devlin, playing through the pain barrier, like Zorro in the face mask there! We need that willingness to do whatever it takes.
“The subs were brilliant when they came on and had a really positive impact on the game. Duk done brilliantly for the goal and just put it into my path. I couldn’t really miss!
“That’s my fourth against County this season, so it was nice to find that one to go into double figures for the season. Fingers crossed I can start a bit of a run and finish the season strong.
“A six point gap is good but things can swing very quickly in the league from one week to the next. We can’t take our foot off the pedal for a minute. We have two games now before the split. That’s all we’re focusing on, trying to get as many points pre-split as we can and then take it from there.
“We haven’t won as often at home this season as we should, we’re not going to hide about that. But it’s nice today to give the fans a home win in the first game back here in a while, so it’s a nice feeling.”
