Aberdeen boss Barry Robson was understandably pleased with the way his new-look side fought back to take a 2-2 draw after trailing by two goals at BK Häcken, but admitted that there might even have been more there for his side in Gothenburg.

“We’re building a new squad, we’ve had some boys arrive just this week, we’re trying to get players up to speed and it takes time. But when you watch that performance – against a right good side by the way – you can see how aggressive we want to be, even in the first half. Second half, we got better with the ball and when we did that as well, we looked like a good team. It’s another game under our belts towards where we want to be.

“You could see the pressing, you could see the speed we want to play at, sometimes we got it a wee bit wrong, but as we got better on the ball, we could have scored five or six goals against a proper team. We could have won it in the end and credit to the players for the way they came back, especially after the penalty award.

“I always felt a goal would come. When you have Duk, Bojan, with Ester coming on and desperate to show how good he is, we carry a threat. Bojan has had a good pre-season, he’s a yard quicker. We’re playing with two wing-backs who are real wingers, we’ve got two full-backs at centre-back, that shows you how attacking and aggressive we want to be. In the end, I’m frustrated because we should come away with a win, but what a brilliant comeback from the players.

“You could see a team that wants to pass and a team that wants to go full throttle, and it’s a good clash. It was a brilliant game for people to watch, the fans were fantastic, and it sets up a great night at Pittodrie next Thursday. The players must never lose the supporters, they must take then with us because the fans will get us a lot of points over the season. We look a handful but there’s a lot still to do next week.”
