Still in love with the game of football but can’t manage the pace?

Sport Aberdeen’s Active Ageing programme, in partnership with AFC in the Community, may just have the perfect game for you. Walking football is launching at Torry Sports Centre on Thursday 18th April. From 10am join former AFC players Jimmy Wilson and Ally Shewan alongside the AFC in the Community team for a slower paced version of the beautiful game. All the rules are the same but no running!

Project lead, Stephen Gammack, who is Active Ageing Development Officer at Sport Aberdeen is delighted to see the initiative kick off;

“Walking football is the perfect game for anyone who can’t manage the full pace and impact of your standard game but still wants to be active and play football.

“Sessions are there to be fun, friendly and social, but I am sure there will also be a competitive side for many.” Our main aim is to see people come along, be active, enjoy themselves and stay for a cup of tea and a chat afterwards”

AFC Community Coach Scott Duncan added;

“Walking Football is already proving hugely popular across the UK and we are delighted to be partnering Sport Aberdeen to start the initiative in Aberdeen. AFC in the Community work with 24,000 young people every year however we know it’s important to also remember and supportthe older generation and the more experienced members of our loyal fan base.”

Cost is £2 per session, including your tea or coffee. For more information on Walking Football please contact Stephen at Sport Aberdeen on 01224 577738.
