Paul Sheerin spoke to RedTV after the U20s 4-1 win over Falkirk on Tuesday night:
“It was much more like us.
“Obviously we were spoilt with the first team boys who we had on show. I thought as always their application and their desire to go and play was brilliant. It is not always easy coming down to U20 level when you are used to playing for the first team but they acquitted themselves very well.
“So we had that bonus but I thought the younger boys in the main applied themselves a lot better than last week. Last week’s performance against St Mirren was a massive disappointment but they responded well tonight and looked a lot busier.
“Peter (Pawlett) is obviously way beyond this level. He has had his issues with little niggles at the start of the season but he looked very sharp tonight and on the two or three occasions he has played for me he has been outstanding.
“Peter is similar to Barry Robson when he played for us. You hope the young boys learn from these players and learn from the appetite they show.
“Miles all night was willing to run in behind, Big Jayden threw himself about trying to make things happen at the top end of the pitch, McKenna as always was a rock and I thought Craig Storie was excellent as well.
“When you have so many positive players in the side, we have five of them in the staring XI who were all very forward thinking, so Craig had a big job on his hands in terms of patrolling that area of the pitch and he did that brilliantly. He always has done that since I have been here. At times he is maybe a bit too laid back and needs to push himself a bit more to get himself nearer the first team but he is aware of that himself.
“You hope the younger ones are willing to watch and see the hunger Craig and the other older boys have brought to the game. If they can learn other little things from these players as well it always helps.
“But as I say it is a simple thing they can learn most from them, their appetite to play the game.
“That was my biggest complaint last week in the first 45 minutes against St Mirren. It was probably the biggest disappointment I have had since I have been at the club in all honestly. The way they went about their business was not good enough.
“They have to realise it is all about enjoying and making the most of whatever environment they are in and for them the Development league is their bread and butter. They have to give their all week in week out. At no time can they rest on their laurels. We felt last week they did that a bit. Hopefully they have realised that and they can get back to what we know they can be; that is hard working and having a desire to get after the ball, a desire to be positive with everything they do and if they continue to do that we will be ok.”
